Gordon Matthew Sumner is a producer of wine, organic products, and good music. He supports campaigns to save the Amazon rainforest and has made his clean lifestyle and yoga a trademark.
Probably thinking about it this way, your mind will be imagining an eccentric and wealthy gentleman with a green thumb and a series of passions; you're certainly not far off; but what you wouldn't imagine is that the songs sung by this "gentleman" are among the most listened to in the world. Former member of The Police, better known as STING, he has been an emblem of music and of a refined sound, as well as a sought-after sex symbol.
For years now, Sting has purchased an estate (Palagio – house + 300 hectares) in the Florentine countryside where he spends much of his time in the company of his wife Trudie Styler.
A lover of organic products, olive oil, and Tuscan cuisine, Sting was among the pioneers of what would become a trend for many VIPs: moving to the region of Dante and dedicating themselves to winemaking.
Entrusting himself to international viticulturist Alan York and winemaker Paolo Caciorgna, the singer has produced bottles that in some cases, such as the Sister Moon 2007, immediately sold out.
His wife Trudie described Sister Moon to Vanity Fair magazine as follows:
«Sister Moon was the first wine produced following biodynamic principles and it is an IGT Toscano wine, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has been very well received, so we are very proud of it. With an aroma of black pepper, black liquorice, and blackberries, Sister Moon is very full-bodied, with soft and round tannins. Casino delle Vie is also of very high quality, and likewise an IGT Toscano. It takes its name from a plot of our estate, and is a mix of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, and other grape varieties».
While regarding When We Dance she prefers not to give too many details:
«When We Dance, a smooth Chianti, composed of 95% Sangiovese blended with Canaiolo and Colorino. This wine has a noble ruby red color and on the palate reveals a great balance, perfect for accompanying dishes of traditional Tuscan cuisine».
Sting also opened a retail outlet in 2010 to market the organic products he grows on his estate in Figline Valdarno; the shop is located within the singer's estate.
Sting's business employs 15 people and also produces acacia, chestnut, and honeydew honey, extra virgin olive oil, field vegetables, cinta senese cured meats, and wine.
