As I see it, the role of a sommelier, taster, and wine expert is to share and spread the word as much as possible about products and wineries that deserve it!
That's why some time ago I told you about Azienda Agricola Vicentini. Today I want to tell you about two excellent products from the good Agostino: Soave Superiore DOCG Il Casale 2012 and Soave DOC Terre Lunghe 2012.
These are no strangers, given that the Soave Superiore DOCG Il Casale 2012 this year received the Corona as Soave Superiore from the VINI BUONI D'ITALIA 2014 guide and was awarded 3 Bicchieri by the GAMBERO ROSSO guide in VINI D'ITALIA 2014.
The Soave Superiore DOCG Il Casale 2012 is produced exclusively from pure Garganega grapes trained in guyot, grown in the Casale locality.
The grapes are selected and thinned, harvested at a high ripeness index, then subjected to soft pressing and long fermentation at controlled temperature, exclusively in stainless steel with no wood aging whatsoever.
It has an alcohol content of 13.5% by volume.
In the glass, on the eye it appears clear with a beautiful intense straw yellow color with golden hues and good consistency.
On the nose it arrives floral and fruity with notes of white acacia and iris flowers; beautiful and captivating are the typical fruit aromas such as Stark apple, quince, and fresh almond.
On the palate it reveals freshness and structure, with the full, savory character typical of this wine.
Also pleasant are the aromas perceived on the retronasal passage, which intoxicate the taster with fruit and flowers before closing like a bud in the characteristically pleasantly bitter finish.
I would pair it with seafood appetizers, seafood carpaccio, seafood or porcini risottos, grilled fish, baked turbot, or white meats.
Wine to be served at a temperature of 10/12 degrees.
Excellent also the quality-to-price ratio, given the modest cost of around €12 at a wine shop.
The second wine we'll talk about today is the Soave DOC Terre Lunghe 2012.
It is also produced in the province of Verona in Colognola ai Colli, but in the Terrelunghe locality – and this will be just the first of many differences!
Made from 80% Garganega and 20% Trebbiano di Soave grapes, trained on a unilateral pergoletta system.
Here too the grapes are harvested at a higher ripeness index, then subjected to soft pressing and long fermentation at controlled temperature, also exclusively in stainless steel with no wood aging whatsoever.
It has an alcohol content of 12.5% by volume.
On the eye it appears with a beautiful intense and bright straw yellow color.
On the nose it arrives with typical floral and fruity aromas; white acacia and broom flowers can be detected, with fruit notes of apple, pear, peach, and citrus hints.
On the palate it confirms the olfactory sensations, revealing itself to be harmonious, structured, and persistent.
To be served at a temperature of 8/10 degrees, excellent paired with seafood appetizers and first courses, risi e bisi (pea risotto), a typical Venetian dish, but also worth trying with grilled white meats.
A wine you can find at a wine shop for around 7 euros that will give you great satisfaction.
I bid you farewell as always, wishing you only the best.
Cheers, health, and bubbles – Endris
