Italian wine region

Tuscany

Tuscany is the homeland of Sangiovese: Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile and the Supertuscans of Bolgheri represent the elegance of Italian wine worldwide.

History and terroir

Tuscany is perhaps Italy's most internationally recognised wine region, thanks to a unique combination of rolling landscapes, art cities and millennia-old enological tradition. The flagship variety is Sangiovese, expressed in countless interpretations depending on terroir.

Among the most celebrated denominations: Chianti Classico DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG. On the coast, Bolgheri brought the Supertuscan revolution: wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that have conquered global critics since the 1970s.

Tuscan wine tourism is a major industry: architect-designed cellars (Antinori, Petra, Rocca di Frassinello), medieval villages, vineyard farmhouses and starred cuisine valorising local produce.
