Hunger knocking at your stomach, car near one of your favorite restaurants in the area: you stop.
I'm at Mamma Perdonami, in the province of Padova, the weather is warm but made pleasant by a light breeze, the flower beds are green and well-tended and flanked by the aromatic herbs used in the kitchen: we decisively sit outside!
The menu changes often, but today I feel like a nice grilled fish, simple and effective! Something to drink? Strangely I don't think: Sauvignon, you pick which one!
The suggestion is the Sauvignon di Ferruccio Sgubin.
Ferruccio founded his eponymous estate about 55 years ago, in Dolegna del Collio, in the locality of Mernico. It all began, as often happens, with a family idea and a dedication to vine cultivation; then, for all those estates that manage to survive by providing good products, time passes and you evolve, the cantina is modernized, new techniques and working methods are tried, and if you remain "pure" you improve without contaminating the original product.
The estate carries out two harvests: in the first "typicity is sought" and in the second "aromatic complexity."
This Sauvignon with its color of pale straw yellow has very strong and well-defined aromas: you immediately notice its long time on the lees (until spring).
There is almost no need to bring it close to the nose – you are immediately "assailed" by yellow fruits, hawthorn, apricot, peach, banana, pineapple, and acacia.
On the palate it is round, enveloping, moderately acidic, fragrant; persistence is sufficient.
A good product in terms of value for money, priced at around 18–22 euros. I ate and drank well: "Mamma perdonami"!
