Sting, Sister Moon and the Charge of the 101 at Operawine

We have spoken on several occasions about Sting, his winery, and the story of the "workers" who, in order to harvest grapes with the former Police singer, would have had to shell out considerable sums of money to stay as guests at the farm. Today, however, we celebrate the "Sister Moon" wine, named after one of the artist's songs, which has been selected among the 101 wines chosen by Wine Spectator for OperaWine, the event that will open the fiftieth edition of Vinitaly on April 9th.

Today, however, we celebrate the "Sister Moon" wine, named after one of the artist's songs, which has been selected among the 101 wines chosen by Wine Spectator for OperaWine, the event that will open the fiftieth edition of Vinitaly on April 9th.

Sting, his wife Trudie and their six children now spend a great deal of time at Tenuta Il Palagio, often in the company of far-from-anonymous guests such as David Cameron, Tony Blair, Bryan Ferry, Madonna, Bob Geldof and "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen.

Working on their wines are Paolo Caciorgna, winemaker, and Alan York, biodynamic consultant.

Returning to the wine, Sister Moon is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged two years in barriques; Sting describes it as: "It smells of black pepper, liquorice and blackberries; it is full-bodied and round."

In addition to this wine, the estate also produces "Message in a bottle", "When we Dance" and "Casino delle vie".

Besides Tenuta il Palagio, there are eight other newcomers: Ippolito from Calabria with its Cirò Ripe del Falco Riserva 2001, Schola Sarmenti, Binomio, Castello d'Albola, Elvio Cogno, La Bellenda, La Tunella.
