ITALY-GERMANY, THE CHALLENGE CONTINUES… What are its origins? Some say Alsace, others Termeno in the province of Bolzano. The fact is that for the first time the name appears in the "Book of Nature" by Megenberg, dean of the cathedral of Regensburg, a city in Franconia. In either case, what are we talking about?
Certainly a grape variety that does not like warm climates, so much so that it is particularly widespread in Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
It has a consistent but never excessive productivity, features a small leaf and a grey-pink berry. But above all we are talking about an aromatic grape variety! FOR FRIENDS, GEWURTZ! Just like le malvasie, i moscati or i brachetti, the traminer aromatico (or gewurztraminer, precisely) has as its distinguishing feature a pronounced yet pleasant intensity of the primary aromas typical of the grape variety.
Meaning? How many of you have never cooked a genovese (If you never have, do it! You don't know what you're missing). Besides being a true delicacy, the main characteristic of the genovese is that for three days you have to air out your rooms because the onion will infest (pleasantly, I would add) your home. And perhaps your neighbor's too! More or less what happens when you uncork a bottle of gewurztraminer and pour it.
Even before bringing your nose to the glass you will be enveloped by aromas of a staggering intensity and aromaticity. Fruity and floral first and foremost, yellow-fleshed and exotic fruit, very fresh flowers, rose and acacia, but also aromatic herbs and vegetal notes.
No sensation goes unnoticed, everything is amplified, intense, fragrant. The straw-yellow color is also intense, with green-gold reflections. On the palate it confirms what we expected; freshness and savoriness, accompanied by a notable softness, ensure that this wine delivers a true joy of the senses that lasts over time, thanks to a significant aromatic persistence.
PAIRINGS? Setting aside the genovese, it pairs well with fish-based dishes, grilled foods, fried foods, risotti, but also with cheeses it can deliver an excellent result.
Personally recommended pairings, however, are with Eastern cuisine; sushi appetizers and gewurztraminer are a most appreciated combination.
