Cannonau

Cannonau is the symbolic grape of Sardinia: genetically identical to French Grenache, it produces warm, high-alcohol wines with a unique Mediterranean profile.

Characteristics and history

Cannonau is Sardinia's most widespread native grape, genetically identified as Grenache (France) or Garnacha (Spain). Probably of Sardinian origin and later spread across the Mediterranean. It produces warm, high-alcohol wines (14-15%), aromatic, with a profile of ripe red fruits, Mediterranean herbs and a balsamic finish.
