On the winery's website, about this wine, you can read:
"Ah! Sì, son coste, son coste le piante, Ch'a l'han vdu j'ani d'mia vita pì bel" - El bòsch d'Vignòle A.Brofferio
Le Vignole is a Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore produced by the Cantina Sociale Babera dei Sei Castelli, one of the major players in the Piedmontese wine sector, deeply rooted in the Barbera d'Asti DOCG area, of which it is the largest producer.
Half a century of activity, celebrated with the wine we have already tasted for you, 50anni di Barbera, 317 member winegrowers, 640 hectares of vineyard, 60 thousand quintals of grapes every year, and UNESCO recognition.
Le Vignole was given to me as a gift by a Piedmontese friend; it is born from the vinification of pure barbera grapes enriched by aging in oak barrels.
It presents itself with a color tending toward garnet red; on the nose, violet, black cherry, plum, blueberry, vanilla, tobacco, cocoa, and pepper.
On the palate it has a strong, muscular, dense structure; the tannin is present and persistent, the high alcohol content of 14.5° vol. is perceptible, but the final acidity makes for an undemanding drink. Long persistence.
To be paired with richly seasoned pasta dishes, even a lasagna, and with meat or game-based dishes: coniglio alla Procidana above all.
"A vineyard that climbs the back of a hill until it merges into the sky is a familiar sight, yet the curtains of simple and deep rows appear like a magic door. Beneath the vines the red earth is tilled, the leaves hide treasures, and beyond the leaves lies the sky. All of this is familiar and remote, childlike to put it briefly, but it stirs something every time, as though it were another world." Cesare Pavese, born right in Santo Stefano Belbo, in the province of Cuneo, right on the border with the vineyards of this winery.
